Chapter 17
The General Comes On Board
(Ó 2009)
(Ó 2009)
Northwest Suburb of Chicago
Seven Weeks Later
She had been in this wide open empty room several times over the past two months, however Dee Dee Stillwater hated being alone in it. The room was once a medium sized grocery store however, the area surrounding it became economically depressed for the past two decades, the store had closed some ten years prior and the building remained abandoned ever since. The building was within its own parking area and set in the back. There were a few other buildings designed for office spaces and smaller retail stores, however, these buildings too were empty. A tall chain link fence surrounded the buildings and the lot, atop this fence was coiled razor wire. There was an entryway from the main road on the east side of the lot that comprised of a wheeled gate that rolled horizontally through the use of remote control. It was secured with a thick heavy linked chain with the best Master-Lock that money could buy.
Across the street from this gate was a forest preserve area where, if you were to hike into it straight for about fifty yards you, would come to a section of the north branch of the Des Plaines River.
Outside of the western end of the lot, and also on the south side of it, are complexes of low income housing apartments that were occupied mostly by Hispanic and African-American laborers. To the north side of the lot there was a grassy hill that led up to a main road where if you drove eastbound for three miles you would come to the main Interstate.
Dee Dee had come through a smaller gate that was in the back on the western end of the lot. She was given her own key to the gate by Julian Chekov. She would unlock the gate and then with a remote control she would open the wheeled gate that was located there. Her job then was to wait for Julian and he would have his meetings with her on the progress of the negotiations she was having with The General and his lieutenants of the Eight Ball Thugs. Tonight though would be the main accomplishment of those negotiations. Discussions that she was laboring with for these past seven weeks since she had her late night dinner with Pieter Chekov. Tonight the endeavor of her dialogs has finally resulted in the first formal meeting between The General and Julian Chekov.
There were only four lights that were illuminating from the tiles of the drop ceiling in the dark open bay area as Dee Dee paced while smoking a KOOL cigarette. The sound of her shoes on the cement floor would echo through the building. She hated to have to come here and wait, but she always came much earlier than she had too because she feared being even the slightest bit tardy for Julian Chekov. She remembered what Jorge Garcia had told her almost two months ago, and that if the Chekov’s want to meet you at a certain time, be there fifteen minutes early. Don’t ever keep them waiting. Dee Dee made sure she would show up thirty to forty five minutes early.
If Dee Dee were uncomfortable in the dark open bay area, she really hated coming in through the back rooms. The main room that she entered through was once the receiving area, and there were four other rooms in the back, two on either side of the receiving area. She would have to go back through those rooms to turn on the lights in the open bay. These rooms would always be pitch black when she came in and she was only allowed to turn on a minimum amount of lights in order to not draw attention.
Right now it was the dark open area that would make anybody nervous to be alone in. The smallest of sounds could be amplified, which would also amplify ones imagination and tonight to make things worse, the October breezes that were blowing particularly hard outside of the building were adding to her anxiety. She paced, she smoked and every few minutes would look to her wristwatch to see how much more time that it would be before Julian would arrive. And as the time grew shorter before his arrival, her apprehension intensified more.
She thought to herself that maybe, just maybe, after this meeting, after she delivers The General to Julian, that maybe she could be let of the hook with the Chekov’s somewhat. Maybe they would not have to use her as much; maybe they could loosen the leash a little. Maybe she could now start to relax somewhat, somewhat enough so that she would not need the pills and the whiskey to help her not be so tense, so that she could sleep through the night, instead of waking up every couple of hours shaking. Maybe she would not have to have to be at Julian’s beckon call so much.
Maybe.
She now stood fast in the room with these thoughts of “maybe” going through her mind. She was so engrossed in them that she was not even aware of where she was. She was jolted back to reality when she heard the jovial voice of Julian Chekov exclaim through the dark bay, “Dee Dee! My little raisin! How are you this evening?”
She turned and saw him as he entered into the lit part of the bay; he was accompanied by the two other large men that went with Julian everywhere on his business meetings, his most trusted and loyal of men who worked for him. All three men were dressed in black suits. The two men had blue dress shirts with dark blue ties. Julian had a dark grey dress shirt with a matching dark grey tie. She forced herself to smile and answered, “Hello Julian.” She looked at her watch, “Right on time as usual.”
“And you are right here waiting, as usual.” Julian said he began to look around the large area, “I am here, you are here,” he then looked at his own watch, “is there not someone else who should be here?”
“I told them to be here Julian, right at nine o’clock as you said, and I also told him that you are a stickler for punctuality. But you have to understand that The General is his own man. Who knows, maybe he’s being late with protocol just because you want him here. It will be his first shot at a pissing contest.”
Julian laughed a little and then turned to on of his men, “Alexei, go in the back and make sure that our guest arrives and lead him back here to us all.” Alexei nodded once and left for the back rooms. Julian then looked at Dee Dee, “Okay, we will let him piss all over himself if he wants too, but just this once.” He then looked at her with a slight sternness, “Just this once.” He emphasized.
However, it turned out to not be a long wait, in five minutes time Alexei stood at the entryway that led to the open bay and announced with a deep Russian accent, “They are here boss.”
Julian then smiled and clapped his hands together and began rubbing them together, “Good, very good. Escort them in to us Alexei, and remember, you do not have to check them for weapons.” Alexei nodded and then returned to the dark receiving room. Alexei opened the door and saw a dark red Ford Explorer come to the gate. Alexei saw that there were three men inside, he pulled out of his suit jacket pocket a remote control and pressed the button, the gate then rolled open on its wheels. When the gate was wide enough, the Ford explorer drove in slowly. Alexei waved to the vehicle and it then turned to his direction. The Explorer came to the area where Alexei stood. This area was once the docking area for the grocery trucks that brought their goods to the old store. It was enclosed and dark so that nobody could see the large truck while it was parked there. The large vehicle then shut down its engine and the two men in the front seat exited. Both men kept their eyes riveted on Alexei as the man who sat in the passenger side stepped around the front of the Explorer and joined the man who was the driver. He then went to the back side door of the Explorer and opened it. The third man, The General, then exited the vehicle. The General was a tall man of six foot three inches. He was dressed in a light blue satin type athletic outfit with a matching baseball type jacket. The word “BROOKLYN” was written in script across it. He also wore a matching baseball cap with the letters “NY” embroidered on it; he wore it with the bill slightly to the side of his face. He wore steel reflective sunglasses, along with a thick long solid gold linked chain that hung down to his abdomen. On the end of this chain was a medallion made up of a circular cluster of five stars. The emblem of the highest of ranking Generals in the military.
The other two men who somewhat identical outfits, the driver though was in shades of red, the passenger in shades of dark blue. They both then stood shoulder to shoulder with The General directly behind them, they then stepped towards Alexei and stopped right in front of him. There was a few seconds where the two men in front of The General tried to stare down Alexei, he returned their stare, then just stepped backwards and held his hand out and down to allow them to come in. The General and his two men entered the pitch black receiving room and Alexei shut the door behind them. They all could see the light from the open bay area through the open doorway. Alexei then stepped around them and to the doorway. He held his hand out to guide the other three men through. They all then entered into the open bay area to see Julian, Dee Dee, and the other man who worked for the Chekov’s.
Julian extended his arms outward and said joyously, “This … I take … is the famous General.”
The men stepped to the center of the bay and met in the center under the dim lights. The General then removed his sunglasses and began to look over Julian and his assistant. Alexei then rejoined Julian and the other man, Dee Dee then stepped to the side and between them. The General just stood fast and remained silent, continuing to look over Julian and his men. Julian then said, “I thought General’s spoke a lot, giving orders and such. This General here, he does not speak?”
The General then looked at Dee Dee and said, “You didn’t tell me that I would be meeting with some mafia looking ‘Godfather’ mother fuckers.”
Julian then looked down at himself and then to his men. He then looked at the General and said, “Are you referring to the way me and my associates are dressed? This bothers you?” He then began to laugh aloud. He then looked at The General and his men and said, “When I was a little boy my father and I would go and see men would dressed in bright colored clothes and funny hats.” Julian then stepped right up to The General, as he did The Generals men reached under their jackets and placed the hand on the butts of the .45 caliber handguns. As they did Alexei and the other man with Julian did the same. However Julian looked straight into the General’s face and continued what he was saying, “Yes, we did. We has a word for these people, we called them clowns, and we watched them as they danced around to make us laugh at the circus.”
All men stood fast in this position for a few seconds; Dee Dee was frozen in her fright. The General then looked to Julian and said simply, “Touché, mother fucker.”
Julian then stepped back and held his arms out and then spoke in a serious tone, “Now, one condition of this meeting was that all could bring their own personal weapons. That was a condition that I agreed with for you to show to you how sincere I am about this business offer that we have for you, and to build some trust and understanding between us. But it is also to show you that you do not frighten me one bit. Go ahead you clown bastard, shoot me and my men dead, we are not afraid to die. Why you may ask? Because we will go to our deaths knowing what will become of all of you.” Julian looked at the man in red and pointed at him, “You. You are Lester. Your mother is at home right now breathing with an oxygen bottle because of her emphysema.” Julian turned to Dee Dee, “You should see her Dee Dee, it is from her years of smoking, you should quit yourself to avoid the same fate.”
Lester asked, “How’d you know that motherfucker?”
Julian waved him off and he turned to the other man and then pointed to him, “And you, you are Jackson, your mother now, that is another story. She is serving what? Fifteen years at the women’s prison here in Illinois? Yes, I know of her, and I know of those two sweet little grandmothers of yours who go to that same church there on Sixty-Third Street, praying together every Sunday for hours on end for her soul and yours.”
Jackson stood silent but Lester asked again, “I axed you a question. How the fuck do you know this motherfucker?”
Julian then looked straight at The General and answered, “I know this Lester because I make it my business to know such things. Especially to anyone that I may be doing business with.” Julian pointed at Lester, “I know all about you,” and then he pointed back to Jackson, “and I know all about you.” He then dropped his hand and continued to look at The General, “I know all about you, and your families, and many of the other members of this group with the funny name, this, what are they called again Dee Dee?’
“The Eight Ball Thugs.” She answered.
“Ah yes, these Eight Ball Thugs.” Julian said, still looking straight into the face of The General, “I have to have her say it first for me always. It keeps me from laughing out loud when I do say the name of your group. Yes, I know most of your men, and all their families along with all their habits and routines. Why? Because if there were to be anything that would happen to me and my two assistants here right now, well like I said we would die knowing what would happen to your families. My brother would just take my place, and carry out the orders of our father. Yes, your families first, maybe even in front of your own eyes, then we would take care of you. And to make it worse, we would just torture you and let you live.” Julian then stepped back from The General and continued to speak, “You see, my heritage, my countrymen, we’ve been doing these things for centuries. If you were to ever read the history of my homeland you would discover that we have made killing and torture into a science; some would even say into an art form. I could take Jackson there for instance and slowly burn him to death over seven day period.” He then stepped back up to The General, moved his face very close to his and said in a most disturbing of manners, “And I guarantee you, that they would feel every minute of it.” Julian noticed by the expression now on Jackson‘s face that what he was saying was disturbing him. “So do not for one second believe that you can intimidate me at all … General.”
Julian then stepped back from The General and pointed to him, “But you … General, I do have to admire you for something. You have made it practically impossible for any person to know any thing about you. No person knows who you really are and no person can tell me where the hell you even came from. That is good for you and your family, because you see you will be the only one in it that will be tortured to death, and you shall be the last of your group to have this done to you.” He stood and stared into the eyes of The General and then asked, “So, do we begin to discuss business, or do we have what Dee Dee here calls a ‘pissing contest’? Because if not just tell me, there are others out there who are willing to make big money and have big things happen for them, and they know for certain that I can provide this opportunity.”
The General stood silent for a few seconds and then answered, “Let me hear what it is that you have to offer.”
Julian then smiled and said, “Now this is more like it. Is it not amusing what money can do? All you have to do is mention its name and people all of a sudden want to listen to you. This is they way that it should be, two men ready to discuss business in a business type of way.” He then stood beside Dee Dee and said, “As you know … General, Miss Stillwater here and her group with the funny name with all of the ‘S’s in it.”
The General then interrupted, “You mean the South Side Stupid Shits?”
Julian looked amused by what The General had said and began to laugh, “Yes, that is right, the South Side Stupid Shits. That is good, I like that. You see … General, you can loosen up and joke a bit when there is no tension caused by you. Yes, this group of Miss Stillwater’s, these Stupid Shits, they fucked up a great business deal a couple of years ago that made a group of businessmen from South America very unhappy. Now just recently as you may well know, another group of Mexicans with another funny name had a fuck up that angered these same businessmen.”
“Speaking of those Mexicans, where is Garcia anyway? I see Dee Dee here, where is he?” Asked the General.
Julian tone became profound again and he said, “Mr. Garcia’s obligation to my father is not a strong as that of Miss Stillwater’s. But, Jorge Garcia is a good friend of my father as well as my family, which means that there will be nothing to jeopardize that friendship. Jorge is also a good friend of mine, and I would hate to see anything that would hurt his career.”
The General, with coolness and calm answered Julian with, “Understood.”
“Very good then.” Julian replied. “Now let me continue, as you can well imagine, these Colombians, well they are quite angry still with what has happened with these two fuck ups that I have mentioned. Oh, they were quite disappointed with Ms. Stillwater here. Is that not correct my dear?”
“Yes Julian, they were quite disappointed.” Dee Dee answered stoically.
“Not as much though with my friend Jorge though, but still they were disappointed.” Julian continued. “As also you can imagine these men are quite skeptical of ever returning here to do business. But they are businessmen, and they do not want to pass up the opportunity to have their product to not be sold here and to lose that business to another competitor. You know how those things develop, right … General. Things like that with our line of work, well, it always tends to get very messy.”
“Yes, they do … Julian.” The General answered.
Julian Chekov let the little jab by The General pass, “You know I have completely forgotten my manners, I seem to do so whenever my father is not around, and I forgot to tell you that it is perfectly acceptable to call me by my first name … for now.”
The General show no sign of any apprehension, “So, you think that you can deal with these Colombians better than the Stupid Shits and the wetback fuck ups?”
“Not only do I believe I can … I know so.” Julian answered confidently.
“And how is that?”
“Because my friend, for the past two months I have been patching things up with them and I have now a relationship with these people.” Julian then stepped up to The General, “You see, I believe in that old saying that, ‘it takes one to know one’, and I know these Colombian men. We are one in the same; they are on the same level as my family. The only difference is the country and the language. And when you are on the same level, you understand one another.” He then stepped closer to The General, “And let me tell you a big fact of life my friend, our level … is way above yours.” Julian took two steps back. “I have made guarantees with these men, my father and my family will help them to bring in their product, where we will store it and distribute it. And it will not be just limited to just this city and region, no, I told them that we could have the entire Midwest and most of Canada as our territory. You could probably call this a, what is that term again Dee Dee?”
“A merger Julian, the term is called a merger.” She answered, still stoically.
“A yes, that is it, a merger, thank you my dear. We have made a merger with these Colombians, and as any great joining of two big businesses, we have big plans and ideas.” He then stepped up closer to The General than he had the entire meeting and placed his hands on the shoulders of The General. “And so my friend, General. I am offering to you, to get on the ground floor as they say with this merger. You and your billiard ball friends here, you will be our sales force and nobody will be able to harm you. Because you have two big advantages that will help protect you, and make you more powerful out there on the street.”
“And what is that?” The General asked coldly.
“You will have much more than just your guns and muscle to back you up.” He smiled and put his hands on the face of The General, “You will have the complete backing of not only our friends in Bogotá, but that of the Chekov Family itself. That alone will make all out there who believe they can bring you down to stop and think very seriously about that, because they will now fear you.” Julian then took his hands from The General than stood and stared at him with a sardonic smirk.
“Your saying that we, I, could me the number one on the streets.”
“Just on the streets my friend.” Julian answered gravely. “I will be making you this number one on the streets, yes, but it will always be the Chekov Family who will be the real number one over all. You and you little friends here, you will be the street number ones, but you shall always be working for us, if you agree to come on board with this, that is the one thing that you shall never forget. Who the real ‘number one’ is. When you work for us, we demand total loyalty … we receive total loyalty.”
“I don’t like to work or take orders from anyone.” The General said sternly, “Especially from some foreign white motherfucker.”
Julian stepped up to The General and said coldly, “Then go, leave right now, do not take this opportunity that I have offered you. I will just have Dee Dee here find me someone else who is going to want it. There are hundreds of you out there with these gangs with these funny names. I will find one, and they will then take this offer. I shall give to him everything that I just told you of, and do you know then what that means for you then don‘t you?”
“No, what?”
“It means then that then you will be fearing the man that will take this offer, and you will be powerless against him, and he then will be this ‘number one’ on the street, and you will be always in the last place, because you will always know that you turned it down … and all else shall know this too.”
The General stepped back and looked at his two men, he then looked to the two men who came with Julian, and then he looked at Dee Dee Stillwater. He saw the expression of anxiousness on her face and how stiff she looked as she stood with her arms crossed. He then looked back to Julian, “So how does this operation work?”
“I tell you nothing until you say you will come on board, I also tell you nothing until you swear your loyalty to me and my family.” Julian said in complete significance. “And when you swear your loyalty to me that means you are swearing the loyalty of all your men too.”
The General then stood back and was now deep in thought. It was a simple choice of being the ‘number one’ under the Chekov Family … or to be nothing above anything. He remembered who he was and where he came from. He looked again to his men, and then back to Julian. “Okay, I’m on board, as well as the Eight Ball Thugs. Let’s do this, let’s do business.”
Julian looked at The General coldly, “Swear your loyalty to my family, and swear yourself and all under you to the Chekov family.”
The General smiled mockingly to Julian and then to his men, “Okay man, if it will make you happy and get this fucking thing rolling okay. I swear myself and the Eight Ball Thugs to you and the Chekov family. Now, can we start to get on with this bullshit man? How the fuck does this thing work?”
Julian then became very jovial, stepped up to The General and held out his hand to shake that of his new subordinate. The General then took Julian’s hand and shook it, this was then followed by a bear hug by Julian onto The General. Julian then stepped back, clapped his hands once and said happily, “This is good, this is very good, I am so happy now with this new partnership.” He turned to his men and said, Alexei! Yakov! Shake hands with our new partners and friends!” They did as Julian told, they each then had smiles on their faces and stepped over and shook hands with The General, Lester and Jackson. Julian then looked to The General and began to explain how things were going to work. “It shall be like any other business … General my friend. I and my family, we are the executives, we supply all the money and the capital needed. Our friends in South America, they supply the product and are in charge of how it is shipped and how it arrives here. You though my friend, you are my distributor as well as your men. You are in charge of distribution and of sales, and I again will supply you with all that you need. I will give you the influence, I will give you the extra muscle, and I will even give you any extra weapons that you may need.” He then raised him arms and began to circle around, “Why … I am even supplying you with your own distribution center.”
“Distribution center?” The General asked confused.
“Yes, distribution center. Everything will be done here, right here in this very building. All the transactions will be done here. All of the product will be stored and processed for sale here. When our friends from South America come here with their product, you will pay for it. I will supply you with all of the funds for each transaction. But you and only you will handle any money. Is that understood?”
The General smiled again mockingly and answered, “Yeah man, it’s understood.”
Julian then became extremely cold; he raised his index finger then said to The General, “Do not ever steal from my family … General. Do not ever steal from us or lie to us. Do not let me catch any of your men stealing from or lying to us either.”
“Or what?” The General mocked.
“Or what? Or we shall do as always have done.”
“And that is?”
Julian turned to Dee Dee and said, “Tell him, tell him my dear what it is that we always have done.”
Dee Dee looked right at The General and said, “If the Chekov Family finds anybody stealing from them, then they will kill them, and they will kill them in the ways that they have always done. If the Chekov’s feel that some one in the group is lying to them, and then they will kill them too in the same way.”
“Tell him what else Dee Dee.” Julian said.
Dee Dee cleared her throat and then continued, “If the Chekov’s become suspicious that someone in a group is lying or has become disloyal, and they can not figure out who it is, then they will kill the entire group, satisfied in knowing that they did at least get the guilty party.”
“Thank you my little raisin.”
Dee Dee looked at The General, for the first time, she felt that she could see the first signs of fear on the expression of his face. The General then began to look over the vast open bay area. He did feel some slight anxiousness now being in the presence of Julian Chekov. The General then asked him, “So, how do you plan on keeping this all on the down low? I mean with the neighborhood around here, don’t you think someone might get suspicious on all of the activity that’s going to be happening around here?”
“The activity here will be at a minimum.” Julian answered. “Because the only people that will be allowed to come here on your end are you and your two men here. Our friends from South America, they will only have three men from their end. You six will know each other and only deal with each other. They bring the product here, you pay for it here, you store it here, prepare it here and you distribute it from here.” Julian then smiled, “And do not worry about this building or all those that are around it. You see, my family owns all of them, through channels of course. And as far as the neighbors, do not worry about them. These are low income apartments and they are all rented by low income families, and almost all of them are living in this country illegally anyway.” He then clapped his hands, “The nice thing about illegal people? They pay for everything in cash. That makes accounting so much easier. They pay five hundred in rent; we put on the books a thousand. Helps to make things look legit.”
“Makes them not talk to the cops about anything either?”
“Yes, that is correct, that is another great thing about them, they are too afraid of the police to report anything. But, we do have to do a couple of things to guarantee that?”
“And what is that?”
Julian looked to The General with a confident smirk, “First, we keep the neighborhood safe. There are no groups like yours with funny names that come there, we make sure of this, and that is because of the second thing we do. That is we, let us say, start rumors that powerful people run this area, and if anyone says anything about anything that they may see, well, they know it will not be very pleasant for them.”
The General felt a slight chill, he then asked, “And the money we make out in the street?”
“We will discuss that when the money is made, because their will be different ways that I will require for you to deliver it to me?” Julian said.
“Me?
Julian stepped up to him, “Yes, you. Because you are the man in charge, and you will be responsible for the safe delivery of all money that changes hands. From mine to yours, from yours to our South American friends, then from the customers to your people, from your people to you, and from you back to me.” Julian’s voice then became cold again, “And I can not emphasize to you enough about how I feel about those who would steal from me. I have wonderful accountants who can figure out exactly what is due to me.”
The General now smirked, “Don’t worry about me.” He said.
Julian answered coolly, “Oh believe I am not, because if there is a shortage, of any kind, it is you that will have to worry about me.” Julian stared coldly into the eyes of The General; he remained silent for a few seconds and then said, “It is time for me and my men to leave now. This is the last time that I or any of my men shall come here. Make sure there are no problems that will make any of us to have too. Dee Dee here shall give you all you need to come and go from here. Yes, this neighborhood, you will have no problems there, but that does not mean that you do not have to be discreet. I bid you farewell now … General. We will be in contact with you soon for the first of many transactions.” Julian then turned to his men, “Alexei, Yakov, come, we must leave.”
With that, Julian and his men left the open bay area quickly. The sound of their shoes on the cement floor echoed throughout the open dark area, in a few seconds they disappeared though the doors. Everyone remained silent as they heard the sounds of the back door of the receiving room open then close. When he felt that it was safe enough to speak freely, The General let out a mocking laugh and said, “Man that motherfucker is crazy, did you see that shit?”
Dee Dee Stillwater then spoke up, “Yes, General, that you’re very correct on, that motherfucker is crazy, and that crazy motherfucker now owns you.”
“Hey bitch, nobody owns me!”
Dee Dee now fearlessly stepped up to The General, “Listen to me you stupid fuck, Julian Chekov now owns you, you swore you allegiance to him.”
“Aw lady, that was just bullshit.”
“It’s not bullshit to him!” Dee Dee yelled, and The General remained speechless. “You have no fucking idea what you have just done have you? You have just sold your soul to the devil, as well as the souls of your friends here. You had better wise up right now sonny and do as you’ve promised. You have given yourself and the Eight Balls to the Chekov family. What you just did? Swearing yourself to him? They take that shit real serious kid. You’d better get it through your fucking thick head right now, you are just like me, you are the property of Pieter and Julian Chekov, and you had better not ever fucking do anything to disappoint them.”
“Yeah, or what?” The General mocked.
Dee Dee voice now became calm and cool and she answered, “Or else Julian Chekov will go all medieval on your sorry black ass. He will tie your hands and feet behind your back and he will gut you like a fish.” She then turned away from him with disgust, “And when he does it, he’s going to make damn sure that I‘m there to see it.” She stepped back from The General and pointed her finger to his face, “I know this for a fact. That insane bastard has taken people and has turned them into dog food. Do you here me sonny? DOG FOOD! And I mean that literally. And do you know how I know? Because Alexei and Yakov are the ones who told me.” She then began to pace, all the time looking The General in the face. “In fact, Alexei and Yakov are the ones who do it. Do you know what their main two jobs are? They are to do these horrific things and then to let everybody who is involved with the Chekov Family that they are capable of it.” She then began to pace with more anxiety, “They told me … they told me how they did it to the last three guys who tried to fuck over Julian. They told me how they took these poor bastards, and gutted and de-boned them, then took the flesh and had it ground down in some dog food canning plant, they had the skeletons ground into bone meal.” She then stepped back up to The General, “And it was Julian who taught them everything that they know, he showed them how by demonstrating it to them himself … personally.”
She looked to the three men. The General appeared to be suppressing feelings of regret; however Lester and Jackson showed expression of great concern.
Dee Dee pointed to Lester and Jackson, “They will come after you two first if The General here fucks up. And they won’t hit you Lester; they’ll get your mama, that’s why Julian mentioned her. And you Jackson? It will be both your grandma’s. So, the both of you had damn well better make sure that The General here stays honest and don’t fuck up.” She looked sternly at The General, “So you see … General, you just swore you and yours to the Chekov’s, so you just got fucking demoted.”
Dee Dee then walked over to where her large purse was sitting on the floor. She reached into it and pulled out a large leather zipper case that was used for making bank deposits. She stepped back over to The General and handed the bag to him. “Here, these are all the keys for all the doors of the building here as well as the keys for the Master-Locks for the chains on the gates. Make sure that the chains are wrapped around the gate as many times as you can when you lock them. You will also find the remote control buttons for the gates to open and close them. Make sure that every thing and I mean every thing is locked up tight when you leave, and above all, keep things discreet.”
“Is there any alarms to set or shit like that?” The General asked.
Dee Dee looked at him with a dumbfound expression, “Alarm? Did you ask about an alarm? Boy, you is a dumb motherfucker ain’t ya? Why the hell would he have an alarm here? A warehouse for cocaine and heroin? Somebody is gonna break in and an alarm is gonna go off and call the fucking cops? Take a look outside dummy; you won’t see any security cameras either. You want to have evidence of who comes and goes here?” She went back and picked up her purse and slung it over her shoulder and looked at him in disgust, “Now, who’s the south side stupid shit? You fucking dumb bastard. Besides, it‘s like Julian said, anyone who is anyone around knows who really owns this building, and that alone keeps anybody from fucking with it or interfering with what goes on here.” She then looked to Lester, “Lester, can you walk me to the back door? Bring those keys and remotes and I’ll show you quickly how it works.”
“Yes ma’am.” Lester answered respectfully; he then took the bag from The General.
Dee Dee now had an expression of vindication on her face. “You know what I’m going to do right now? I’m going home now, and for the first time in two fucking months, I’m going home to relax.” She then closed her lips tightly and they began to quiver, and then labored to speak, “Maybe, just maybe I can go to sleep all by myself, maybe I won’t need a half bottle of whiskey tonight to help me pass out and go to sleep.” Tears now formed in her eyes, “Why can I? Because I know that I won’t be hearing from Julian Chekov for a while. I’ve done my part, I got you two together, and now this is all your responsibility, asshole. This is the last time that I ever have to fucking come here to this shit place.” She composed herself and straightened herself up, “It doesn’t mean that I’m free of the Chekov’s, no I’m still owned by them, as well as you all are now. Come now Lester, let’s go.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Lester said and then he and Dee Dee made their way to the back of the open bay and into the dark of the receiving room. She quickly turned to see The General and Jackson just standing there, not moving. They were now stunned at the events that just happened and changed their lives forever.
She and Lester then came to the back door of the old dark receiving room and she reached into her coat pocket and retrieved her key for the door. She unlocked it, and had to slightly force it open because of the wind, she and Lester then stepped out. “My car is over there, walk me to it please.” Lester complied and escorted her to her car. Once there Dee Dee handed her key to him. “Here, this will get you back in. When I drive my car to that gate just press the button on one of those remotes and the gate will open, once I’m through, just press it again and it will close. And remember what I said about wrapping that chain around it to secure it.” She then opened the door to her car and climbed in. She shut the door and started the engine and then looked up to Lester as he was standing there. She then rolled down her window to speak to him, “You be real careful sonny, don’t let that dumb bastard in there be the reason your mama gets killed.”
An expression of concern came to his face, “Yes ma’am, I’ll be real careful.”
She then rolled the window back up and then drove her car to the gate of the back fence. She stopped her car at the gate and then looked back to Lester. She saw as he raised his arm and pointed at the gate with one of the remotes. Suddenly she heard the whirring sound as the engine of the gate began to pull the gate open. She then exited through the gate, turned right, then turned right again at the corner, then accelerated and sped away down the side road - - -
Then he observed as the three Russian men were leaving, they were speaking in their native tongue. They found it humorous of the look on the faces of the black men as they began to realize that they have gotten in over their heads and there was no way out. He then heard the leader of the Russian men say in his native language something that is translated to English as ‘How niggers quickly wilt like dead weeds when they see that they are out gunned. That they will never fight when the odds are against them.’
Soon after came the Stillwater woman with one of the black men. She had now just sped past him, just six feet away. The black man then returned to the building. He decided to wait for the three black men to leave before he would go to the location of the entry point of the fence where he could enter and leave anytime without being seen, with the cover of darkness of course. As he waited he took the time to study the whole area around him, both the area inside the fence as well as out. He would do reconnaissance on the area inside the fence as soon as the three black men would leave.
He heard a sudden clanking noise from one of the parking lots where the low income housing was. He looked through his monocular to see as a Hispanic man who was throwing a bag of garbage into a large receptacle. The man had a little boy with him. After the man placed the garbage in the receptacle, he reached down to the little boy and picked him up and patted the boy lovingly on his bottom.
He then scanned over the area of all the apartment buildings and then to the area inside the fence. He placed the monocular in front of him and then whispered to himself, “Yep, this is going to take a while, this is going to take some real planning.”
