Chapter 28
Little Fish, Big Fish

(Ó 2007)
Thursday Morning
Lake Forest Hospital
The clock on the wall of the nurses station now showed that it was 11:23 AM, David confirmed this by looking to his wristwatch, for which seemed to him the thousandth time. His watch confirmed the time as the same as shown in the nurses station.
He and Noel both had been sitting in the waiting room just adjacent to the nurses station, and just down the hall from the room where Gregior Divic was recovering from his attack, since 8:45 AM that morning. They had been biding their time since then with visits to the rest room, the coffee vending machine, watching boring morning talk shows on the television, and reading articles in magazines that seemed only subscribed and especially made for hospital waiting rooms.
The reason for their wait had introduced themselves earlier upon their arrival to the hospital. Their names were Special Agents Jay Boldini and Chris Wren, both of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Both agents had arrived earlier to question Gregior Divic themselves concerning the kidnapping and interstate transfer of a minor female, namely Marsha Post.
Boldini was in his late twenties with a slender build. His blond hair was receding and the crown of his head had the beginnings of a bald spot, which he tried to hide with which is commonly known as a “comb over”. Agent Wren seemed a couple years younger. He also had blond hair, however with no signs of early balding whatsoever, he had a slightly stockier build. Both men were dressed in the conservative standard FBI look, dark gray suits, white shirts and solid ties.
The second Agent Boldini introduced himself, David didn’t like him, neither did Noel. It was Boldini’s whole demeanor, which was smug and arrogant, added with his artificial smile, and the they could sense the false intentions that came with his handshake. Agent Boldini informed them that the FBI had jurisdiction over Gregior Divic since he had committed federal offenses, that he was now in charge of the investigation and that Divic was his responsibility. That he would grant them access to Divic as soon as they were done interrogating him that morning.
“It shouldn’t be long,” he said with his constant, fake smile, “I trust you understand.” Boldini did all of the talking, Wren stood behind him and remained silent. Both Boldini and Wren then entered the hospital room of Gregior Divic, and securely shut the door behind them.
“Why do I feel like I just bought a used car?” David asked afterward.
However, this was not the first time that David had seen Agent Boldini. He first saw him just two days prior, in the hallway that led from his office, to the office of Captain Xiang. Boldini was leaving the office with Xiang, David witnessed this while standing outside of his own office door. It was what Boldini was carrying in his hand that drew David’s attention, it was Captain Xiang’s copy of “The Pink Book”. Both he and Boldini had made eye contact, not a word was said between them, however a communication was made just the same.
David was pacing the length of the waiting room again, the clock now read 11:28. “Dave?” Noel said, motioning him to come sit down. David reluctantly complied.
“Yeah.”
“What do you make of this Boldini?”
“I think my dear friend,” David answered, leaning closer to him, “that he’s a fucking weasel.”
“Besides that, I mean do you think he’s in there asking this Divic guy about nothing but Marsha Post’s kidnapping and his business and all? Or he’s drilling him about the names in that pink book.”
“Yeah,” David said, “he’s in there getting all he can on everyone in that book. I’ve seen thousands like him in the city. From just meeting him, I feel that he’s not going to make the FBI his career. No, Mr. Boldini has other ambitions I believe, and I think they may be political. If he knows the names in that book, then this Divic guy is just a little fish for him in order to get the big fish”
“I feel the same.” Noel said quietly, leaning closer to his friend, “I think we should watch our backs, concerning him anyway.”
“I’ll watch yours, you watch mine.” David said as he lightly punched Noel on the shoulder.
“Just like always.” Noel replied. Then he stood up to take David’s place in pacing the room.
Frustration mixed with mounting anger rose in the both of them, not just from the wait, but from the blatant act of disrespect that came from Boldini and Wren. Not once since they closed the door behind them from Divic’s room, had they come out to give them their status on the interrogation, or even show the common courtesy of acknowledging their presence still in the waiting room.
The clock, and their wristwatches, now read 11:32, when then the door to Divic’s room opened and out stepped both Boldini and Wren. Wren turned from Boldini and proceeded towards the men’s room; Boldini stepped towards the waiting area, still with his ever present condescending smile.
“Gentlemen,” he said as he approached them, “I apologize for the wait, it’s just that the time just seemed to get away from us.” He turned to the nurses station, lifted his hand to get the attention of the ladies at the desk, and said to them, “Nurse? He’s ready for you now.” Two nurses, both young and of African decent then nodded and went into the room of Gregior Divic, along with them they took a teenage volunteer, what is commonly known as a “Candy Striper”, she was blond haired, Caucasian with a beautiful complexion. They were to go in a prepare Divic for his next interrogation, they had to check his vital signs, his monitors, and they common equipment regarding his personal hygiene.
“So Detectives,” Boldini said, smiling, “we’re going to let you do your questioning as soon as the nurses finish. Chris just has to use the bathroom, then he will load up the video camera for you.”
“Well, that’s mighty sweet of ya.” Noel responded sarcastically, he turned to pick up the brown leather satchel which contained some files pertaining to there case.
Boldini ignored Noel’s cynicism and continued, “It shouldn’t be too long Sergeant, however I must inform you that both Chris and myself will be present during you questioning, and that your questions will only pertain to your case.”
“Now what the hell does this suppose to mean?” Noel said angrily. Boldini just looked at him, the smile never leaving his face, he seemed to be taunting Noel.
“Wait one second here Agent Boldini.” David cut in, “Let me make something very clear here.”
“And what would that be Sergeant?”
“Listen,” David said, in a calm, diplomatic manner, “my partner and I here to question this Divic guy on what happened to him. Were are not here to have a pissing contest with the FBI. Noel and I? We’re from the old school. We just want to get the bad guys, understand? We don’t care who does it, whether it’s us, the state boys, or you feds, just as long as the bad guys are caught, put in jail and dealt with. Understand?”
“Yes, Detective,” Boldini answered, smiling, “I understand completely.”
“This Divic?” David continued, “I don’t know him, and we’re about to see him for the first time. But what we do know about him, well, you guys can have him.” David stepped right up to Boldini, almost nose to nose and said, “And you are going to take care of him, right? I mean the feds are going to do what has to be done for what he’s been doing, right?”
“Yes, Detective,” Boldini answered, “you can rest assured that the federal government will give Mr. Divic what’s coming to him.” Boldini then turned his attention behind him where he saw Chris Wren emerging from the men’s room, drying his hands with a paper towel. Wren then stepped to the doorway of Divic’s room, gave the men a small wave, and then entered.
“Well then,” Boldini said, “now that we all have an understanding, let’s go in shall we? But first, let me tell you what you’re going to see. Divic is in a like half body cast to stabilize his back …”
“You don’t have to tell us anything Jay,” Noel said holding up his hand, “Dave and I have had a crash course in spinal injuries and surgeries over the past year.”
“Yes,” Boldini said, “yes, I suppose you have. Let’s go then.”
The three men entered the room. Upon their entry as they stepped in there was the video equipment that was being attended to by Chris Wren. He was loading in a new video cassette. “It’ll be just another second guys.” He said.
Noel turned to Boldini and said, “Hey, I didn’t even see your lips move.”
Just past the camera Noel saw the candy striper, she was standing rigid with her feet together, clutching a clipboard in her arms close to her chest. She was looking to the floor, the expression on her face showed that she was very uncomfortable. David couldn’t help but noticing her also, both he and Noel looked to their left and saw the cause of the young girls distress. There was Gregior Divic, lying in his bed, his chest was bare with the blankets pulled up just below his breasts to cover the braces he wore to stabilize his spine. The other two nurses were on either side of him completing their duties. His long blond hair and dark beard looked as if the had just been groomed. His dark piercing eyes were at that moment staring at the young girl, and while he was doing so, he was blowing kisses to her and wagging his tongue.
Noel stepped over to the girl, he placed himself right between her and Divic’s line of sight. “Is that his chart?” He asked the girl.
“Uh-hmm.” She answered timidly.
“May I see it please?” He asked holding out his hands. The girl placed it in his hands and Noel looked at it, all the time standing in front of her. Noel studied the chart and saw what condition that Divic was in. He then turned to the bed, “Mr. Divic?”
Divic looked up to Noel without answering.
“I’m Sergeant Noel Jaworski, Chicago Police, this is my partner Sergeant David Todd.”
The two nurses quickly finished and went to leave the room, the girl started to leave also, but Noel motioned her to stay put.
“I know of you both,” Divic said with his deep Bosnian accent, “I see about you on the TV.”
“Yes, we’ve been hearing that a lot.” Noel said.
“So, now you read me my rights, just like on TV shows right?” Divic asked smiling.
“No, Mr. Divic, We’re not hear to read you your rights,” Noel said, “we’re hear to question you as a victim in a crime. We believe that you were attacked by someone we’re looking for, whose done this to three other individuals. You’re slightly different because the other victims in this case ended up in a more severe condition than yourself. According to you chart here, you still have the use of you upper body and your arms. The others? All quadriplegics.” Noel then looked right at Divic and said, “However, you keep doing what you are doing to scare this little girl behind me, well then I guess I can finish the job that your attacker started.” Boldini quickly glanced at Noel, “Assuming it’s the same man we’re looking for of course.”
Divic and Noel stared right into each others eyes, Noel did not flinch one iota. Divic then blinked and said, “What is that you want?”
Noel turned to the young girl and said, “That will be all miss.” The girl appeared now more relaxed, smiled at Noel and left the room.
“Jawor-SKI?” Divic asked, his accent caused him to pronounce his W’s like V’s, “is it spelled with an ‘i’ or ’y’?
“It’s spelled with an ‘i’.” Noel answered.
“So, you are Polack, not Czech.”
“One hundred percent.”
“I thought police need smart men to be police.” Divic said sarcastically.
Noel laughed and stepped up to the edge of the hospital bed. “You know, some years ago that statement would have bothered me, but my dear Polish mother would always tell me to look at the source. Well, I’m looking at a one hundred percent Bosnian schmuck,” Noel then lifted up the blankets off of Divic’s legs, “whose been cut down by fifty percent.” Noel looked at Divic’s legs, and then to his face. “I suspect that your baby raping days are over, huh Greg?”
Divic began to breath angrily through his nostrils and his were pursed tightly as he grit his teeth.
“Oh,” Noel said as he threw the blanket back down over Divic’s legs, “I believe I may have struck a chord.”
David then intervened, “Mr. Divic? I would like to ask you some questions about the attack on you. We would like to see if by chance it is the same man that we are looking for.”
Divic turned his attention to David, his expression of anger was diminishing. “OK, ask your questions.”
David turn to Chris Wren and motioned for him to turn on the video camera, “Just tell us what happened that night.” David said.
“I wake up after twelve,” Divic started, “I thought I heard Bodo, he sound like he hurt. It sound, it come from outside, in back. I wait, I see if Bodo come back in house. He not come, so in a few minutes, I get up, to see. I go down the stairs, I see he not where he sleeps.”
“You mean where he guards the basement door?” David asked.
Divic ignored David’s statement and continued, “I go to kitchen and see Bodo not there, I go to back door and open it. It dark in back yard, light does not work, so I call to him. All I hear is strange sound, it turn out that it was Bodo, breathing strange. I walk out into yard and follow sound, then I see Bodo, he lying down on ground, breathing hard, he not move. I go to him, when I get to him, that is last I remember before I wake up in den.”
“You were knocked unconscious.” David said.
“Yes, I then wake up in den, my head, it is in much pain, I very dizzy.”
“Describe the position you were in when you woke up.” David said.
“I was lying on my front, my face to floor, my arms outward, I look like airplane.” Divic said, then he became silent, he became lost in his memory momentarily.
“Go on Mr. Divic.” David said, bringing Divic out from his thoughts.
“I hear something strange, it come from the top of my head.” Divic said, now sounding restless from his memory, “I turn my head up, and there, I see Bodo. He look right at me, for first time I see fear in his eyes. He not move, he just lie there, trying to breath. But, I feel not alone in room, someone is standing over me, I feel it. I try to turn, when he fall on me. I feel his knee in middle of my back, he is very heavy, his hands grab my head, I cannot move it, he has much strength. He force me to look at Bodo, he tell me, ‘keep your eye on your animal, do not move.’ I know then, he want me to look at Bodo, he want me to know just what he can do.”
“How did he sound when he spoke to you? Was he angry?” David asked.
Divic thought of the man’s voice and answered, “No, that strange. He calm, very calm, like whole thing was normal thing to do.”
“Please continue.”
“He hold my head so I could do noting else but see Bodo.”
“Describe how he held your head Mr. Divic.”
Divic thought for a moment then used his own hands to show them, “He had one hand here like this, on my chin, I could not open mouth, his other hand here on front of my head. He push down on eyebrows, I could not see up, only straight ahead, at Bodo. I feel his strength, he has much, I feel pressure in neck, I knew he could break it then, no problem.”
Divic went silent again, then David brought him again out of his thoughts, “Go on.”
“I not move, he tell me, ‘keep your eye on dog, nothing else’, I do this. Then I feel the pressure of him get off me, he say again, ‘do not move’. I do as he say. Then, … I feel it.”
“Feel what Mr. Divic?”
“I feel this, what he do to me, I feel great blow on my back.” Divic started to look emotional, tears seemed to form in his eyes, “It was great punch to my back, I remember my body snap like whip, my face hit floor, I feel much pain. I go to scream, but then he is again on me, his hand over my mouth. He tell me to be quiet and to take pain.”
“Can you tell me if by chance you got any type of look at him, can you describe him for us in any way?”
“No, I no see him at all, even when he leave the room.”
“He left right after he injured you?”
“Yes, he leave, I hear him walk around house, then he gone.”
“That’s all?”
Divic look disturbed, his eyes averted them and he answered, “Yes, that is all.”
Noel opened the satchel and pulled from it a sheet of paper. He placed the satchel down and walked over to the side of the bed. He stood close to the bed, close to Divic, he looked to the paper and read from it, “Always remember why this happened to you.”
Divic became agitated, his head turned quickly and looked straight at Noel.
Noel continued to read, “Always tell the truth, about everything that you have done.”
Divic grabbed Noel’s forearm, “How do you know of this?” He hissed.
“If you do not do this, I will return to you, and I will make this worse, I promise you.”
Divic squeezed Noel’s arm harder, “How do you know of this?” he asked more angrily.
Noel then finished the statement on the paper, “I will be watching you always, do you understand? I will be watching you, … always.”
Divic held onto Noel so hard that he was beginning to raise himself from off of the bed. David placed his hand on Divic’s shoulder and said calmly, “Mr. Divic? Let him go. Relax.”
Divic looked at David, he held onto Noel for another second, then relaxed himself and released him. He then fell back onto the bed.
“So, Greg,” Noel said to him, “does that all sound familiar to you?”
Divic looked straight ahead, then said, “That is what he said to me, yes.”
“Well Mr. Divic,” David said, “you just confirmed that the man we are looking for is the one that attacked you. That’s helped make our job here a little easier.” He turned to Boldini, “Looks as though our time here will be short. You should of let us go first.” He turned his attention back to Divic and said, “I just need to clear up another matter with you Mr. Divic, then we will probably be on our way. Should just take a few more minutes.”
Noel then went to retrieve the satchel and replace the paper that he had just read from.
“OK Mr. Divic,” David then said, “just one more thing. A document was found in your den where you were attacked, a file really. This file contained the names of whom we believe were your most influential clients we shall say. Customers of yours for a certain aspect of your so called business. Two of the names in that file are of both Jared and Mitchell Bartholomew.” He looked over to Boldini, whom David could tell was holding back his emotions in this matter, “As you know Agent Boldini, we believe that young Mr. Bartholomew was attacked by the same man who attacked Mr. Divic here.” He then turned back to Divic, “Tell me Mr. Divic, how long have you known the Bartholomew men?”
Divic hesitated, then answered, “I know Bartholomew boy for few years, his father, just recently.”
"On the night the Jared Bartholomew was attacked,” David continued, “he told us that he was waiting for somebody. The person he was waiting for was going to deliver a young boy to him, this boy was being delivered to him for the purpose of a sexual encounter, arranged by the person delivering the boy, and paid for by Jared Bartholomew.”
Divic said nothing.
“By any chance Mr. Divic, was the person who was delivering this boy to Jared Bartholomew, was this person you?” David asked.
Divic remained silent for a moment, then he remembered the voice of his attacker, whispering very calmly,:
- - - Always tell the truth, on everything you have done. - - -
“Yes,” Divic then said, “I was one who was delivering boy.”
“This boy, was he the boy that was found in your home the night of your attack?”
“Yes, it same boy.”
“By any chance do you know of William Freeman and Raul Ortega? They were the two men who were initially attacked.”
“The two rapists, I only know of them from TV news.”
“You then don’t know them personally?”
“I would never associate myself with such scum.”
Noel let out a laugh, “That is pretty funny, coming from someone like you. Imagine that you of all people have scruples.”
Divic gave a hard stare to Noel.
“I have to know Mr. Divic because,” David said, “you and Jared Bartholomew seem to be the only ones who are connected to one another. Both of you were attacked by the same man. Tell me, that night when Jared was attacked, did you see anyone or anything that deemed suspicious on the estate grounds.”
“No,” Divic answered, “I was at gate, but I was to angry to see around me. Bartholomew boy, he was to give me twenty thousand dollars in cash once I gave him boy. We had all things arranged, he not show, I too angry.”
“Did you see anyone on the street outside the estate?” David asked.
“No, as I say, I too angry, besides, those streets, no lights hardly, streets always dark there.”
David then paused for a moment, then said, “Well, I guess that will be all for now Mr. Divic.” He turned to Boldini and asked, “If we need to question him any further, I suppose we would speak to you first, right?
“That’s correct Sergeant.” Boldini answered.
“Well I guess we’ll take our tape and be on our way.”
“I’m sorry Sergeant, but we’ll have to send you a copy of the tape, this is still part of our investigation.”
“And when will we have our copy?” Noel asked.
Agent Wren then spoke up, “I’ll have a copy in your offices by tomorrow.” David and Noel then observed as Boldini gave Wren a disapproving look, as if he were interfering.
“Why thank you Agent Wren,” Noel said, “We would appreciate that very much.”
“Thank you Mr. Divic,” David said, “this has been somewhat helpful.”
“Yeah Greg,” Noel said, “and I would wish you a speedy recovery, but why bullshit ya? Like I said, You’re the luckiest of the bunch, you still got your arms, and as for that mutt of yours, well it had to be put down.”
Divic looked at him sadly, “Put down? You mean they kill my dog?”
“Yes,” David said, “your dog had to be put to sleep.”
Divic then had tears well up in his eyes, he lied back on his bed and looked up to the ceiling. Seeing this made David and Noel feel somewhat sympathetic towards Gregior Divic, and this made them both feel somewhat uncomfortable.
“Come on gentlemen,” Boldini said, “let’s adjourn and I’ll see you to the hallway.” Wren turned off the video camera, and joined the other three as the made their way to the door.”
“Detective.” Divic suddenly said, looking at David.
“Yes, Mr. Divic.”
Divic looked to David and said, “Tell me about Bodo.”
“I beg your pardon.”
“Tell me about my dog.” Divic said somewhat pleadingly, “Tell me how he die.”
“Do you want to hear everything?” David asked.
“Yes.”
“OK then.” David said, turning to Noel he held out his hand, Noel gave him the brown leather satchel. David opened it and produced a file. He opened the file and began to read. “This is the autopsy report on your dog.”
“Autopsy?”
“Yes, Mr. Divic, autopsy.”
Divic bottom lip looked as though it was quivering, “You mean they cut up my dog, like in butcher shop?”
“I’m afraid so, it was necessary.”
Divic lied back on his bed. “Proceed.” He said.
David began to read the file, “The autopsy on the rotweiller dog, named Bodo, shows that the dog suffered extensive damage to its internal organs. The spleen, was ruptured and the liver swollen, kidneys were bruised also. It is presumed that this damage was caused by severe blows to the dogs mid-section. The initial blows may have come when the dog jumped upwards in its attack of the intruder, as most dogs usually do. The dog had three cracked ribs and two ribs were completely broken. The dog also suffered from extensive brain damage. It is presumed that the brain was damaged from two circumstances. First, the dog was wearing a chain linked choke collar. Cuts and bruises on the dogs neck showed that the intruder managed to choke the dog with this collar, cutting off the blood flow and oxygen to the brain. The dogs brain was damaged also due to a severe concussion, the dog showed signs of trauma to its head, possibly from being struck several times. There is no sign that any blunt instrument was used, so it is presumed that the intruder used his fist to inflict the head injuries.”
“In other words Greg,” Noel said, “your dog was beaten until it was retarded.”
Divic ignored Noel, looked to David, “You are saying, this man use just his hands on Bodo?”
“Yes, no evidence of any weapon of any kind.” David said and replaced the file back into the satchel.
“Where is Bodo now,” Divic asked, “where is he?”
“After the autopsy, and we looked over the dog for more evidence, the dogs remains were then cremated.”
Divic looked stunned, the four men then began again to go towards the door when Divic spoke, “This man, this man you seek, he … he is not human.”
“That is funny,” Noel said, “coming from a guy like you. Come on let’s get out of here before he tries to make us think that this is an episode from ‘Timmy and Lassie’.”
“Do you own dog, Jawor-SKI?” Divic asked sternly.
“Yeah, I have a dog.” Noel answered as he made his way to the door.
“Then you should know what it is to have dog.” Divic said sounding serious. “Dog very loyal to you. Dog would give it life for you.” Divic looked away from the men, he swallowed hard as if trying not to cry, then he said, “Dog will never judge you.”
There came a silent moment, then Noel said, “Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know what you mean and you’re right. When you think about it, hell, even Hitler’s dog liked him.” Noel then stepped quickly from the room, he was followed by the other three men, once out the door they heard as Divic cursed and swore at Noel in his native Bosnian language.
Once outside in the hallway, Wren closed the door to the room.
“Thanks Ski.” David said to his partner. “For a minute there, I was actually starting to feel sorry for that sack of shit.”
“Don’t mention it.” Noel looked up to see that even Boldini and Wren seemed to like his last words to Divic. However, Noel felt that if Boldini continued to smile that way, that he was going to go over and slap it right of his face.
“So, gentlemen,” Boldini then said, “just how is your investigation going? Any leads on your vigilante?”
“All we have,” David said solemnly, “is a dead dog, a traumatized teen, and now, the four cripples he left behind. The cripples have only heard his voice, and the girl only saw him as a big silhouette.”
“The only theory that we have is that we think this guy might be paramilitary,” Noel added, “either current or ex.”
“No Jay,” Noel said, “this is a vigilante, not a serial killer. Serial killers like the ‘Zodiac’ or ‘Son of Sam’, those guys like to taunt the cops, and see what news they can create. They get of on the fear they create on the public. A vigilante feels like they are doing us favor, they like to remain anonymous, and with that, they can start to get the public on their side.”
“And that seems to be our biggest problem,” David added, “the public does see this guy as some sort of hero. Yeah, there was a short lived outcry when it came to Jared’s attack, but that all quickly fizzled out when the details about him became public.”
“Yeah,” Noel said, “I hear that Jared’s own mother has disowned him; and the fucking lawsuits that are coming out against him and his dad, jeezus! But Mrs. Bartholomew is first in line, she’s filed for divorce on old Mitch, and she’s got herself the number one friggin divorce lawyer in the Midwest, Gloria Goldstein, she’s a banshee with a law degree.”
“I hear she makes coffee nervous.” said David, “She’s the worst case scenario to face in divorce court, a jilted Jewish housewife with three kids, whose ex-husband ran off with the hot Puerto Rican housekeeper. Her ex was really loaded, she hit him hard for half his money, then put herself through law school and became a divorce lawyer.”
“Yeah,” Noel added, “and I hear that there are a lot of ex-husbands out there, whom she just shredded, that want to put a hit on her ex.”
“Goldstein will be at the head of the line of all who want to sue Jared and Mitch.” David said. “She will be first in line, I guarantee it.”
Then Boldini said, “Let me see you to the elevator detectives.” He then motioned to the direction of the elevators down the hallway. As they started to make their way Boldini said, “In the room there you mentioned that the Bartholomew’s names were seen in a certain file of Divic’s”
“Yes, I did.” Said David.
“By any chance, did you see the rest of that file?” Boldini asked.
“Yes, we did,” David answered, “we all saw the file, the complete file. Sheriff Harwood, Noel, our Boss, and myself, we saw and recognized each and every name in that file.”
The smile came back to Boldini’s face, “You know that Divic’s file is now in the possession of the Bureau right?”
“Yes, we know that Agent Boldini. Why do you ask?”
“Well, I just want you to know that the people who are in that file are of no concern to you, with the exception of the Bartholomew’s of course. We will be talking to all those in that file, so you need not concern yourselves with them.”
David then stepped up to Boldini, once again face to face, and said calmly, “Like I said before, as long as they are taken care of Agent Boldini; and I trust that you will be taking care of them right? I hope you do because you’re right, I need not concern myself with the child molesting, perverted, shits who just happen to be in high places whose names are in that file.”
“Yes Sergeant,” Boldini replied, “I will be taking care of them” Boldini then pressed the button to the elevator, the car was already there waiting and the doors opened immediately. Both David and Noel then stepped inside.
“Have a good trip back to the city gentlemen.” Boldini said, the arrogant smile as big as ever.
The doors began to close when suddenly David put his hand out to reopen the door. “Agent Boldini, I just thought of something.”
“What is that Sergeant?”
“All the people in that file. You don’t suppose by chance, that our boy might know all those names also do you? If so you had better get in touch with them all, he may be watching them right now, they‘ll need your protection.”
The smile immediately left Boldini’s face, then the doors closed shut and the elevator proceeded downwards. Once they had gone down two floors, Noel said, “Jeezus, what … a fucking … DICK!”
